How to Forward Vonage Business Missed Calls to LeadTruffle
Learn how to forward Vonage Business calls to LeadTruffle. Configure VBC Follow Me, preserve caller ID, and test the missed-call text-back workflow.
Quick Answer
tl;dr: For Vonage Business Communications set up LeadTruffle first, then select your VBC call flow routing type. Follow Me can call the next destination after the previous one has been called, if the previous one was not answered. Enter the assigned LeadTruffle number (if any), keep the caller ID, and test the entire route. Different controls are used in Vonage Enterprise.
The idea is that you can provide a second path to your team when you've selected unanswered calls but still keep the calls that you'd prefer your team to answer for.
Before you begin
Check to see if your account is Vonage Business Communications (VBC). Make sure to have an Administrator or Super User on hand, and capture the current settings of the extension, destination, voicemail, and schedule.
For Enterprise service, use its separate forwarding guide. Do not assume VBC and Enterprise have the same menus.
Step 1: Configure LeadTruffle's missed-call workflow
Configure the Missed Call Text Back, enter the welcome message and qualification questions and verify the number to which it is to be sent.
Forwarded callers can leave voicemail. It can use available context to extend the conversation with an eligible caller, to continue by text. After the agreement, AI can inquire about the service required, the location of the property, and the timing.
When there is no answer, it doesn't mean there will be a text or appointment. The timing and eligibility for delivery will be dependent on the caller and the set-up of the messaging.
Step 2: Choose the appropriate Vonage routing option
Choose the coverage that you want:
| VBC option | Intended behavior |
|---|---|
| Follow Me | Ring configured destinations in sequence. |
| Forward All Calls / Send to extension or number | Send incoming calls to the selected destination. |
| Simultaneous Ring | Ring configured destinations at the same time. |
If the coverage is to be done by staff, look at a sequential Follow Me arrangement. A direct-forwarding can miss that first call to answer, and simultaneous ringing may result in LeadTruffle receiving the call while staff are ringing.
To ensure you have the options you can use, reference Vonage's Forward Call Options guide.
Step 3: Configure and save the supported Follow Me sequence
Follow the VBC Follow Me instructions.
- Open the Admin Portal and go to Phone System β Extensions.
- Edit the extension receiving the business calls.
- Open Call Forwarding, enable Forward Calls, and choose Follow Me.
- Set the intended staff-answering destination first and the LeadTruffle number later using the supported extension/number choices.
- Choose the available ring durations and final voicemail destination.
- Select Originating Caller ID where available, then save.
Have your administrator check that the sequence does not loop back into itself. Confirm that an earlier destination's voicemail does not answer before LeadTruffle gets the call.
An after hours routing requires a review of a separate schedule. Don't take it as a given that an extension's Follow Me policy automatically becomes a business-hours policy.
Step 4: Test forwarding and the text invitation
From a separate mobile phone, call the published Vonage business number and leave it unanswered. Confirm the call reaches the LeadTruffle greeting.
Give a short service question, read eligible SMS invitation and confirm as requested. Check the conversation and LeadTruffle caller number received.
Takes a normal call to ensure staffing coverage. If set up, check after hours path independently. Remember, a saved destination is just one component of a working setup.
Illustrative example: A homeowner leaves a message about an air conditioner that is not cooling. With consent, the conversation can collect the service address and preferred timing for your team to review. No appointment, dispatch, or revenue result is implied.
Troubleshoot and turn forwarding off
If Vonage voicemail answers first, inspect the sequence, timeouts, and earlier destinations. If the wrong caller number arrives, review the forwarded-call Caller ID choice. If every call skips staff, check whether direct forwarding is active.
If voice call message is received at LeadTruffle but no text, request them individually to verify SMS eligibility and messaging settings.
To remove forwarding, an Administrator/Super User can restore the previous forwarding configuration and turn off the Forward Calls setting. End user changes are different from full deactivation, as outlined by Vonage's permissions guidance. Retest staff who are answering and voicemail later.
FAQs
Can I keep my Vonage business number?
Yes. Customers keep calling it, and calls are directed to the LeadTruffle destination it was configured to.
Does Vonage call forwarding also forward text messages?
Voice forwarding is not a setting for SMS forwarding. This is LeadTruffle's missed call text-back service and is a separate service.
Can LeadTruffle answer the call instead of using voicemail?
Separate configuration of AI Voice answering is possible, with the use of a dedicated number.
Does this automatically connect my CRM?
No. Follow a supported, configured workflow for CRM delivery/booking. Look at supported CRM integrations to determine the setup.
Let your Vonage call sequence lead to a useful handoff
For a VBC Follow Me setup, the order of destinations determines who gets the first chance to answer. Check that earlier voicemail does not intercept the call and that the original caller's number reaches LeadTruffle where available.
